Blue Window is a gentle lullaby written in memory of the artist Tony Hollaway, who died in 2000, and titled after Hollaway’s monumental stained-glass window of the same name in Manchester Cathedral in the UK. Blue Window is unusual in giving the main melody to the tuba – shining a light on the most underappreciated member of any brass ensemble, and turning the usual textures of a quintet upside-down.
