Noble Music for a Ceremonial Occasion is a stately processional for brass quintet, with nods to ornamented Baroque brass writing and contrapuntal scoring – but it is more than a compositional exercise. It was written by the composer for his wedding in 2004, and the title is a nod to his wife’s unmarried name of ‘Noble’ – at the ceremony it was performed by Onyx Brass. Noble Music has a kind of humble grandeur and would work as a meditative moment within a concert programme.
